Saturday Steals: Birthday Bargain

So, the boys turned two on Thursday. These past couple of days have been kinda crazy! I can't believe that they are two already! Seriously, where did the time go? Anyways, this post really isn't about their birthday or the festivities that we did. It is about a super cute cake that I made by myself without anyone's help (except the internet's).

You see, A & C are obsessed with Woody & Buzz so I figured we would have a fun rocket ship shaped cake. I Googled rocket cakes and saw a whole bunch of ideas. So basically, I decided I would do it myself. I baked a 13X9 in greased foil so it would be easily removed. Once it was all cooled down I cut the rocket shape and then took the corners flipped them upside down and placed them on the opposite side of the cake. That sound's kinda confusing, but it was really easy. The end result was a super cute cake that I decorated with homemade cream cheese frosting and sprinkles that were in my pantry because I didn't get any piping icing and don't own any piping tips. I know, I need to get on the train and purchase those things but I just havent yet. So, with out further ado: here is the cake!

I even decorated with cardboard stars and a moon that I covered in tin foil. I'm a genius, I know.

Saturday Steals: JCP Red Zone

Last week my friend Dana told me that JC Penny's had some shirts marked down for super cheap. They had already ran out of the sizes that her boys wear but I should check it out to see if my kiddos could get some new clothes. Well you know what, I got them 4 t-shirts for $6.75 which includes tax.

The shirts normally sold for $7.00 a piece. How awesome is that? I would like to thank back to school sales and the fact that JC Penny's Red Zone has items that start at 60% off. My boys got new shirts for their birthday. I still cant believe they are gonna be two :(

Saturday Steals: A Coat of Paint

It  is Saturday again, and that means that it is Saturday Steals over at Archives of Our Lives.

This week I got a SMOKING DEAL over at Home Depot. I am currently in the middle of redoing the interior of my house. Sounds kinda crazy and intense... and well it is, but its really more furniture and paint changes. We aren't tearing anything out, yet. Someday I would love to tear out my carpet, however it's just not in our budget at the moment. Anyways, I went to Home Depot to pickup some paint so I could get my kitchen island painted. Remember when I was trying to pick out paint colors? Well after getting advised by my super fantastic friend I went with Library Mahogany by Ralph Lauren. So we went to Home Depot with the intent of only buying a quart because paint can be pretty pricey, especially name brand. Well... are you ready for the steal.... Ralph Lauren paint is on CLEARANCE right now. The paint guy said that Martha Stewart's paint line was pushing out Ralph's. I did have to compromise finish in order to get a great deal though. The only finishes that they had at our Home Depot were flat and eggshell. I obviously went with the eggshell finish. I only have gotten 2/3rds of my island painted thus far but am already loving the effect it has. Below is a sneak peak of the project.

So, if you are needing paint and want a super amazing deal head over to Home Depot and buy you some Ralph Lauren paint for super cheap! I got 2 quarts of the paint for $7, it retails $14 for one quart. 75% off!! Seriously, go buy some paint and make over a room in your house or some furniture.

Saturday Steals: Family Favors

My friend, Camille, does a fun segment every Saturday on her blog, Archives of Our Lives,  called Saturday Steals. She talks about all the cool things she gets for free or super cheap. It's amazing and other people in the blogosphere join along. This is my first Saturday Steal so enjoy :)

Well, since I am back in school I needed a new laptop. My old laptop I got my 2nd year of college and while it was good and great, it has officially died and now disappeared. Luckily, I have a super awesome uncle who loves me. To say I am his favorite is an understatement I think, even my mom and sister would agree. The other thing about my uncle is that he is a super geeky computer guy. I called him asking his advice about purchasing a netbook or a laptop, I figured he would know better than pouring over reviews online. I was right! He told me netbooks are great for on the go stuff, but not what I needed for school. I told him I wanted a smaller laptop because a big one would be too cumbersome and heavy to trek around school with on top of books. Well, it must have been my lucky day because he told me that he had a Thinkpad which was small and a full power laptop! I was super excited. He told me he had to find a battery for it and then would mail it out.

A couple weeks later this came in the mail:

Now I have a super awesome little Thinkpad which was given to me free of charge. It has fingerprint protection, so there is no need for me to remember a password. He also lovingly loaded it with all of the "Office Essentials" that I would need for school. How awesome is that? I love it and am eternally grateful to my Uncle David who sent it to me all the way from Minnesota.
